|The introduction of orientation programs for students who have just started school and are struggling to succeed in their classes. Module 4 has 4 units.
Absenteeism refers to a student being absent from school. Absences can be. motivationally based (i.e. poor relationships with other students, academic failure) and. structurally based (i.e. having to work during school hours, taking care of a sick family member).
Absenteeism can be categorized as either uncontrollable or controllable. Uncontrollable absences include family illness, accidents, jury duty and unexpected emergencies. A typical controllable absence may be dissatisfaction with the school or class. No matter which type, absenteeism is disruptive to the school and student, reduces the quality of education, taking care of your students and raises operating costs.
Four percent or more is considered excessive as regards to absenteeism.
|Aim of the module
|Purpose of this module is to provide help for teachers and trainers in the form of practical examples, sample activities, questionnaires, good practice examples, case studies etc. in response to the uncontrolled absenteeism reasons originating from the student, family, school, etc.
|Upon the completion of the module, the learner will be able to:
1) Demonstrate knowledge about controlled and uncontrolled absenteeism
2) Understand what causes (un)controlled absenteeism and be able to act on it
3) Describe their ideas about making opportunities in regards to reducing absenteeism and some potential strategies to help achieve this
